Wow! What an AMAZING weekend... The entire committee is overwhelmed with how many "Thank You's" and the amount of positive feedback we have received in the past few days. The weekend far surpassed even our own expectations!

We'd love to share all your photographs - especially with those alumni who were unable to attend!!! Please upload them to your favorite online digital photo service (i.e. Kodak Gallery, Shutterfly, Snapfish) and reply to this email with your photo album link(s). Please write your name and year in the subject line so I can use that as the link on our own website. Also, if you'd like to pick a few (10 or so) of your favorite photos and email them directly to me (preferably in a zip file) Curt Pair has offered to make a ZAHS Reunion 2008 Slideshow for us through his production company. A few last minute details:

Las Vegas Monorail (Link)

Free Trams:
There are two free trams in Vegas, one running through the gardens between The Mirage and Treasure Island, the second running from Excalibur to the Mandalay Bay (southbound) and the Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur (northbound).
The latter is particularly useful as it is a fair trek along the strip between those hotels. You also get some fantastic views of the Sphinx at the front of the Luxor!

Jaywalking:
When you are walking around the strip, use the crosswalks. Jay-walking in Vegas carries a $150+ fine. And when you're at the crosswalks, wait for the "Walk" light and don't step too far off the curb while you wait. The locals really fly down Sands, Flamingo, and other streets that cross the Strip and the traffic lanes are close to the curbs. (The pedestrian bridges at Flamingo and Tropicana are helpful in this respect.) Numerous posts in Las Vegas newsgroups have said that car/pedestrian accidents around the Strip happen a lot more often than the Convention and Visitors Bureau would like to admit. And often the people driving the car are themselves visitors with a rental who are sight-seeing while driving. FYI, you can actually be arrested for jaywalking if you resist the citation, and if you end up going to trial and are convicted, it’s a misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum $1,000 fine and six months in jail. You could even be assessed court costs. Whether walking or driving, be extra careful around the Strip!

Hello Trojans!

Yep, you got it, the Las Vegas reunion is less than 2 weeks away! So, get packing!

Here are a few things you should know before you come:

*If you'll be in Vegas on Thursday night and are looking for something cool to do, check this out ~ Class of 88's Danny Mulcahy has reserved an area for us at the “The House of Blues Foundation Room” atop Mandalay Bay! As a member, he has graciously made the arrangements for our group to enjoy this upscale private venue with an incredible view of the strip. He's getting us in, but we're each responsible for our own food and beverages as this is a ‘Non-Reunion Event’. Dress code is strictly enforced (Business Casual): Fashionable attire is required - no ball caps, no tennis shoes, no hiking boots, no athletic attire, no baggy jeans, no bandanas, no hoodies, no sandals, men: no shorts, no blue jeans, or tank tops. OK folks, this means you need to get dressed to the 9’s; so, no looking ‘sloppy’!!! Check out the web site (Link). Also, there is a guest list for the HOB Foundation Room for our group and your ‘invitation’ will be your reunion name tag.

It took a lot of work, but we finally convinced the U.S. Government to issue checks to everyone so they'll have money to play with in Las Vegas! They wouldn't agree to call them "ZAHS Stimulating, Titillating, Exciting, Reunion Checks" like we requested, but hey, we'll take what we can get! So, put those checks to good use and register soon!

We found you but we are still looking for others! Just because the reunion is only 2 months away doesn’t mean we’ve stopped searching. Do your part by visiting the lost and found page on the site. Hello Trojans!

We are currently in the last registration period - which closes in less than 4 weeks! There are close to 150 alumni already registered for the reunion weekend which is so exciting -- with over 300 ‘yes’ RSVP’s this means there are still a bunch of people that still need to register!!!

The committee has received tons of feedback regarding our reunion plans and the website. With this feedback we have also fielded a lot of questions. The same few questions, actually. So, we thought we’d set the record straight on some FAQ’s….you can also check out the FAQ page on the website...in the meantime, here are a few of the most asked:

Can I bring my spouse and friends?

Of course!

When will I receive my reunion tickets?

There are no physical reunion tickets. All paid participants are listed on the ‘paid partygoers’ page of the website as their confirmation. You will receive a Welcome Packet in Las Vegas with wristbands that will serve as your event admission tickets.

Can I purchase tickets at the door?

No, sorry. So, get online and buy your tickets now! 67 days left (and counting) until we all meet again in Vegas…

Class Reunion

It was my class reunion, and all through the house,
I checked in each mirror and begged my poor spouse
To say I looked great, that my chin wasn't double,
And he lied through false teeth, just to stay out of trouble.
Said that 'neath my thick glasses, my eyes hadn't changed,
And I had the same figure, it was just a mite rearranged.
He said my skin was still silky, although looser in drape,
Not so much like smooth satin, but more like silk crepe.
I swallowed his words hook, sinker and line
And went to my reunion feeling just fine.
Somehow I'd expected my classmates to stay
As young as they were in those long-ago days.
Their lives were so interesting, but like me, through the years,
They'd added gray to their hair, or pounds to their rears.
So we shared a few memories and retold some class jokes,
We were eighteen in spirit, though we looked like our folks.
We laughed until morning, and were quite the sight
As we rolled back the years, and were young for the night.

What is green, covered with stickers, and filled with brat memorabilia?

Operation Footlocker!

Operation Footlocker, also called Opfoot, has been requested and is currently reserved for our reunion! What exactly is Operation Footlocker? In a nutshell, it is a traveling museum of written memories and memorabilia donated by military brats to share with others of a like background. It is a grassroots effort to celebrate the shared cultural identity of military brats. Most military households have an old beat up trunk, well, Opfoot IS that old beat up trunk filled with brat history. It doesn’t travel with just one person from destination to destination; instead it travels on its own to brat reunions, air shows, parades, military events, and military bases as a mobile memory project. Some items in the footlocker include t-shirts, written memories, photographs, and other objects from an event in a brat’s history. Each item means something special to someone and it is what they wanted to share with other brats as well as others interested in a brats life.

We are excited to announce that fellow alum Francie King is creating several slideshows for our reunion weekend! She would like to represent a variety of different people, groups, and years in her slideshows and this will only be possible with your help. She is requesting all Trojans submit some of their own personal photos. So, if you could please take a few minutes to dig through all those old pictures, dust them off, and email your favorites to her (zwei@knology.net) that would be awesome! Fran will be producing several different slideshows for our reunion and they include: one for each of our ‘past reunions’ (Orlando 1998, Las Vegas 2000, New Orleans 2002, & other reunions) as well as an all encompassing slideshow from all our years at Zwei (aka “The Zwei Slideshow”). If you don’t have a scanner at your house or work, you can take old prints to most discount/drug stores and use their photo machines to scan the pictures onto a CD and then email them to her. Please label the pictures with names and the approximate year they were taken. Also, please be sure to include your name as well as your graduation year in your email to Fran. She will be working hard to get the ‘past reunions’ slideshows posted to the website before our Las Vegas reunion this summer. ‘The Zwei Slideshow’ will be broadcast at one of our reunion events – TBA. Please submit all photos for the ‘past reunions’ slideshows by May 15^th and for the ‘The Zwei Slideshow’ by June 15^th. Again, Fran’s goal is to represent as many fellow Trojans as possible so please take a few minutes to submit all those fun Zwei photos (hey, this also includes alumni who are unable to attend the reunion too…)! It has become necessary to add additional rooms to the ZAHS Reunion 2008 block at NYNY. (YAY!) As anticipated, the rates are slightly higher than what was offered previously but they are in line for what we originally had contracted with the hotel (The early bird gets the worm!). Please keep in mind the rates are still better than what is currently available online directly through NYNY itself. So, fair warning, book now through the ZAHS reunion link on our registration page!

We are excited to announce Matthew Vaagsland, (Vaagsland Studios), husband of Zwei Alumni Brandon (Zahl) Vaagsland, will be providing his professional photography services at our reunion. After the reunion he will upload all photos to Pictage.com. This website will allow you to purchase prints as well as order a memory book from our event. He has offered to design a memory book for our group and you’ll also be able to design one of your own. We will have a group photo as well as class photos at one of our events too (tba). A great big thanks goes out to Matt for offering his professional services that would otherwise be costly for our group! Hey, keep in mind that Matt will be attending the reunion with his wife and we still want him to have a good time!
Once the reunion is over we will post links our site (Z Gallery page) to other photo websites for which you have uploaded your own pictures (sites such as Kodakgallery, Shutterfly, Snapfish etc.). We’re still exploring other options on how everyone can share their own personal pictures after the reunion so please feel free to email any reunion committee member for comments and/or suggestions on the website photo page. NYNY Hotel & Casino is unable to take our group reservations until the middle of October - at the earliest. We have decided to hold off on registration until the hotel can accommadate us with rates for the entire month of July 2008. They expect rates to be available within the first two weeks of October. Hi Everyone! Please keep in mind that, yes, someone can e-mail you through the website but this does NOT mean they have your e-mail address. (However, if you respond to any incoming messages through the site then they will have your e-mail information.) So, please ignore any e-mails through this website from people you don't know, unless, of course, it's from the reunion committee!!! There is information posted on the message board regarding scam and spam artists. Unfortunately, bad people troll the internet too so please be careful when posting any personal information and keep in mind that your reunion committee does NOT give out any personal information to others...this includes to fellow alumni.

Happy Labor Day!

* Registration is just a month away!!! On October 1st, 2007 we will be sending out a mass e-mail which will include the registration link. You can also just click on the registration page on the website when registration begins. Reunion package prices and other important information will be included in this e-mail. A complete list of reunion specifics is located on the 'Details of Events' page on our website.

* Once you register your name will be placed on the 'Paid Partygoers' page. The earlier you register the better 'deal' you will get. Plus, registering early motivates others to do so.... which is great for reunion attendance!!

* We're still trying to locate lost fellow Trojans. Please let Jacque know how you discovered our site....go into the 'Reunion Committee' message board to let her know....

* We know many of you might have received duplicate e-mails for the RSVP. Sorry! We're trying to cover all our bases while keeping our e-mails to a minimum. We're also doing our best to reduce the chance of duplicates.

Please remember this is an RSVP only - this is not a list of registered attendees. When registration begins in October registered attendees can be found on the 'Paid Partygoers' page.

Recently a batch of broadcast e-mails was sent to Alumni requesting their RSVPs for the reunion. By 7/31/07 another (even larger) batch of e-mails will be sent. If by 7/31/07 you have not received an RSVP e-mail it means we don't have your current information. Please RSVP as well as update your personal information with your class contact.

Also, you can view the current tallies for the reunion on the RSVP page. In less than a week there has been a tremendous response and the majority of Alumni have not even received their own personal RSVP e-mail yet!!

“The BRATS FILM TOUR – Our Journey Home!"

As most of you already know, “BRATS: Our Journey Home” is the first documentary about growing up BRAT. (For a preview, visit our website at www.bratsfilm.com). Earlier this month, we won the Southern Lens Award and Best Documentary at the Beaufort Film Festival, and author Pat Conroy called with his congratulations!

We'll be featured on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" in a couple weeks - probably the 24th or 25th of this month - check www.npr.org to see the time it will play in your area. We've also been invited to screen on South Carolina Public TV's "Southern Lens Series" later this year.

In April, the Month of the Military Child, the Armed Forces Network TV will broadcast the film worldwide to bases outside the U.S. Please tell your friends and family members overseas! Please see our website for details.

We kicked off our BRATS FILM TOUR at the Marines' Memorial Club in February and from now until the end of June, we're visitng towns and cities across America. Please check the website for dates, times, and locations.

We are extremely excited to share Mr. and Mrs. Carter's 50th wedding anniversary announcement. As you know, Sgt. & Mrs. Carter were well loved and legends at good ole' Zwei High. FYI ~ Your reunion committee has started contract talks with the NYNY hotel and the next step will be to talk with the Hofbrauhaus restaurant. It is a long process but we will keep you posted on the details as they are finalized.

We're still trying to locate many classmates so if you don't mind passing along our website address we'd sure appreciate it. We'll try to provide a monthly update on the "What's New" page so you can check in here first. The plans (as of now) are to try to get the "Lost & Found" page up and running by March. We will also (hopefully) have started the contract process for our vendors out in Vegas right around that time. When specific vendors and dates have been agreed upon we will announce it here as well as send you an e-mail from the address you provided by signing our guestbook or submitting a then & now profile. Please keep e-mail addresses up to date by e-mailing Jacque on the "Contact Us" page. If you have any suggestions, ideas, etc. for our site please let us know. A few notes since the website launch a week ago....
The number of visits and posts to the website was amazing!! What a great response from Zwei High classmates in just 7 days. Go Trojans!!! The guest book entries alone have totaled over 100. The message boards have come to life too. If this keeps up...Watch out Vegas!!!
The RSVP page isn't "gone" it's just not active right now. We've saved your responses so far but want to activate it later to give us a more accurate count. When the RSVP page is active again we will e-mail everyone. Please make sure we have your up to date personal information either by submitting it through the "then & now" page or by sending Jacque an e-mail through the "contact us" page. This is important so we can contact you when there is big news!!!
